Alicia Planincic is the Director of Policy and Economics at the Business Council of Alberta (BCA). She leads BCA’s economic research, including the bi-annual Snapshot of the Alberta Economy, in-depth studies on major issues and regular commentary on the factors affecting people and businesses.
Her work spans a wide range of economic topics, including labour markets, inter national trade and public finances. You can find Alicia’s weekly economic column in The Hub, where she breaks down what’s going on in the Albert and Canadian economy.
Alicia’s professional background includes roles in market research at Nielsen and teaching economics and business courses – both of which have shaped her work as a economist.
Panelists:
- Jim Stanford is Economist and Director of the Centre for Future Work, a labour economics think tank based in Vancouver, B.C. He is one of Canada’s best-known economists. He served for over 20 years as Economist and Director of Policy with Unifor, Canada’s largest private-sector trade union (formerly the Canadian Auto Workers). He is quoted frequently in the print and broadcast media and contributes a regular column to the Toronto Star. He is also the Harold Inns Industry Professor in Economics at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.
- Ben Eisen is a Senior Fellow in Fiscal and Provincial Prosperity Studies and former Director of Provincial Prosperity Studies at the Fraser Institute. He holds a BA from the University of Toronto and an MPP from the University of Toronto’s School of Public Policy and Governance. Prior to joining the Fraser Institute, Mr. Eisen was the Director of Research and Programmes at the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies in Halifax. He also worked for the Citizens Budget Commission in New York City.
