How the UK keeps its startups at home.

The UK’s tech sector is valued at $1.2 trillion US, the largest in Europe. However, it faces many of the same problems that Canada does – access to capital, the tax environment and access to talent.  43% say they are actively considering relocating outside the UK. The UK has mounted an aggressive plan to strengthen its tech sector and keep firms at home.

Join us for a webinar to explore how the UK keeps its high-tech startups at home and stops them being bought up and moved out of the country.

Mark Hart is Professor of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Policy at Warwick Business School, Deputy Director, Enterprise Research Centre (ERC), Academic Lead, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, UK, and Holder of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion. A prominent figure in his field and in the role of government supporting small businesses.

Panelists: 

  • Lucy Hargreaves is co-founded and CEO of Build Canada, an initiative working to make this country the easiest place in the world to build new companies and scale bold ideas.
  • Chad Saunders is professor in the Haskayne School, University of Calgary where he specializes in innovation and entrepreneurship research.
  • Moderator: Peter Josty, Executive Director, The Centre for Innovation Studies.
