DESCRIPTION:Entrepreneurship through acquisition\nEntrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA) is a path to business ownership where an individual buys and operates an existing\, established small or medium-sized business instead of starting one from scratch\, allowing them to become an owner-operator with immediate revenue\, customers\, and infrastructure\, bypassing the high risks and lengthy development of a typical startup. This topic is becoming more important as babyboomers approach retirement and need to find an owner for their business. \nJoin us for a webinar to explore this and learn from Québec’s experience in supporting ETA for the last ten years. \nSpeaker \nAgop Evereklian is the founder of the Québec Business Transfer Centre (Centre de transfert d’entreprises du Québec\, CTEQ\, now Repreneuriat Québec). He has more than 35 years of experience in the private and public sectors as an entrepreneur\, executive manager\, general manager\, vice-president and CEO.  Former Chief of Staff in several governments (Chrétien\, Martin and Harper and Mayor Tremblay of Montreal). \nPanelists \n\nPhil Davidson is Director of the MBA & Executive MBA Programs at Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. DESCRIPTION:How to keep Canadian high-tech startups at home.\nIt is a challenge to keep high tech startups in Canada as so many of them get acquired and moved to the US. A study by Leaders Fund found that only 32.4% of Canadian-led “high-potential” startups launched in 2024 were headquartered in Canada\, a decline from 76% in the previous decade. \nWe can learn from what the UK is doing. The UK’s tech sector is valued at $1.2 trillion US\, the largest in Europe. However\, it faces many of the same problems that Canada does – access to capital\, the tax environment and access to talent.  43% say they are actively considering relocating outside the UK.
